I update this page weekly, so you know what I’m working on now.

Couple of fun things this week. Firstly, I was interviewed on the wonderful TheCreativePenn podcast, to be broadcast on the 1st August, about travel, writing, productivity, self-care and more.
Then I also facilitated a session with the Chiang Mai Writers’ group on self-publishing which was much fun. Quite tiring though!

After the indie pride day last week, I thought I’d mention to you the Chakra quiz. The magic system in the Energetics books is based on the Chakras. Each character in the books has a dominant and an auxiliary chakra. And if you’re wondering what your own dominant chakra would be, you can! You can do the quick quiz, and get both a description and a badge that you can share.
What’s my dominant Chakra? Probably Manipura. I can see aspects of all the Chakras in me, most definitely, but I think one of the reasons Blaize was the first character for me I wanted to write about is that that’s her dominant chakra. I’d love to hear what yours are – feel free to come share it on the Facebook page here.

However, I was invited to take part in the amazing Indie Pride Day, an event that celebrated independent authors and their work. There were plenty of giveaways, new authors and fun questions involved – go check out the page, as there was plenty of paranormal romance there!

I continue working with Tierra, and the gorgeous Fintan in ‘Tierra and the Warrior’. If you want to see what I think Fintan looks like, check out my Energetics’ Pinterest board here. I also have a paranormal romance covers board, with plenty of recommendations if you enjoy the genre.
I haven’t found my perfect casting for Blaize yet though – any ideas?
I just finished ‘Magic Shifts’, the latest in the Kate Daniels series from Ilona Andrews, and you can check my review on Goodreads here. I recommend it!

I’m back in Chiang Mai, and work on Tierra continues. It’s funny, I fall in love with each hero and heroine as I write about them. Tierra has such a warm heart, and a goodness about her, she’s just adorable.
I’ve also published a couple of new posts on my travel blog if you’re interested in my non-fiction writing – you can read about my adventures in Austin, Texas (including the Rodeo!), or, as it’s Father’s Day as I post this, you can read an emotional essay about my Dad, who passed away 9 years ago.

This week I’ve finally begun revising Tierra. I have a number of ideas and revisions I want to make, so I think it will be a slow process, but it *is* happening. The second week in Abu Dhabi was interesting, and I even did some tourist activities as well as work – for example, visiting the immense and beautiful Grand Mosque (see pic).
I went to a writing workshop with the Chiang Mai writer’s group, where I met up with some other local authors, and we drank coffee and talked about flow and writer’s block.

In Abu Dhabi, working on a consulting project…
29 May 2016
If you’re interested in creativity and productivity, you might be interested in the video discussion myself and Bryan Collins (of BecomeAWriterToday.com) did this week on my other website, EllenBard.com. We discussed how being kind to yourself can help support your creativity and productivity. Click here to watch.
It’s a timely reminder for me as I’ve been in Abu Dhabi for the last week, and have another week here. The consulting work has meant poor Tierra is still suffering from a lack of attention – but I’m trying to be kind to myself and remember I can’t do everything at once!
22 May 2016
I’ve done some edits of Tierra but the poor girl just isn’t getting a lot of attention because I have so many projects on. I’m sorry! In terms of Blaize, I was thrilled to get a very balanced review from the big book review website FangsForTheFantasy.com on Goodreads.
The comments picked up on something dear to my heart: “…there were also some nice subversions. While there are many exceptions, we still do see a lot of celebrating virginal or “gently used” women next to experienced, older and sexually more capable man. In this case neither party is a virgin and, if anything, Blaize is the instigator of a sexual relationship – she’s confident, experienced, a happy pleasure seeker. And she is the one who wants a sexual relationship rather than a romantic one. At no point is she shamed for this or looked down on for this – she is a sexual being and that’s never seen as a bad thing”.
I want to write female characters where there’s not a whole bunch of shame in having sex. I’m really pleased that that’s come across in the first book – the main character in Book 2, which I’m currently finishing, is a lot less sex driven than Blaize, but the heroine in book 3 is very sex driven – it’s all based on their characters, as it is in real life.

An exhausting week working in Kuwait left little time for writing or editing unfortunately. I did send out four signed paperback books to the winners of recent competitions – two in the Goodreads giveaway, one on the fan page party with Kate Thomas below, and one for the members of my list (you can join here for exclusive content and giveaways).

My goodreads giveaway finishes on Thursday (11.59 PDT) and an amazing 500 or so people have added Blaize and the Maven to their ‘to-read’ lists. I shared a little behind the scenes information in a video where I answer questions on the book here.
I’ve started a fascinating online course with Romance Writers of America (RWA) on the male perspective in romance writing, and I’ve also signed up to Sterling and Stone’s Storyteller’s Bootcamp in June – if you’re a writer, it’s free, and well worth your time!
On Saturday I travelled to Kuwait, where I am working in one of my other roles this week, running a training course around psychometrics (did you know that my Chakra Quiz was written by a psychometrician? 😉 ) .
1 May 2016
This week involved my first Fan Page Party for the paranormal romance author Kate Thomas, who just released the fifth book in her Equilibrium series. You can pick up the first book, The Core, for free on Amazon now, or find the full series here.
My Goodreads Giveaway is still going strong, and you have until the May 10th to win a signed paperback copy of Blaize and the Maven. Go here to enter!
24 April 2016
This week I’ve been working on another writing project, non-energetics’ world related, but I’ve been really pleased with where I’ve got to with it. It’s also given me the opportunity to mix things up a bit and go to new coffee shops in Chiang Mai – we have plenty! I found the cutest one with lots of knick-knacks and curios to surround me with inspirations and ideas. Love it!
I also have a Goodreads Giveaway starting on 25th April until May 10th – enter (it’s free) to win a gorgeous signed paperback copy of Blaize and the Maven.

On the move again! Yes, all this travel can be bad for my productivity… I’m now back in Thailand, and ready to both write and edit. I’m sure the coffee here will help (see pic!). One activity in this last week has been becoming an accountability partner with my friend, the non-fiction author Anna Charbonneau. We’re both working on books at the moment, and we both travel a lot, so we’ve been supporting each other through those challenges. I also came third out of eighty in the book covers competition mentioned below, so thanks to everyone for their support. I’ll announce the winner of the signed copy of Blaize in my next newsletter.

Horrid jet-lag this week. Back in the UK, and the travel has really taken a toll on me. To fill my creative well, I’ve taken advantage of London’s awesome free museums, and spent time in the Victoria and Albert museum of art and design. Even the cafe there is full of life and beauty. Done a little writing there, but mainly been doing administrative tasks that I have to do when I’m in England, as well as seeing family and friends.
3 April 2016
Austin, Texas, and the Smarter Artists Summit have both been amazing, inspiring, and exhausting. I’m back now in the grey UK, filled with a resolution to push on with the edits and keep writing every day. There were plenty of amazing authors both speaking and in attendance – check out Julia Kent for her romantic comedy ‘Shopping for a Billionaire‘ series, and JA Huss’s darker romantic suspense.
I’m also through to the semi-finals of the book cover competition for Blaize, but sitting at number 3, and only the top 2 go through. So if you haven’t already voted, you have two days as it closes on the 7th April. If you’re voting, my entry is number seven.
27 March 2016
This week I travelled from the cold, grey UK to sunny, blue-skied Austin, Texas. Next week I’ll be attending the Smarter Artist Summit and I’ve come early to have a bit of a break. I’m not one for traditional holidays – I like a place where there’s still time for a bit of writing or laptop time as well as adventures in a new place.
Austin’s been great. I have friends also visiting right now, and we’ve been on walks, a bike tour (that included Texas State Cemetery and a little sunburn), and to the Austin Rodeo (which was completely crazy, and like nothing we’d ever seen). But I’ve also had time to keep up with some book things, such as this book covers competition that Blaize and the Maven is entered into – it’s looking good for me to get to stage 2, but if you haven’t voted, head here – you can also win a signed paperback copy of Blaize and the Maven!
20 March 2016
Frustrated to say there’s nothing much to report this week in terms of the Energetics. I’ve been in the UK, and absorbed in the task of clearing a storage unit that I rent. When I began travelling a few years ago, and rented out my property, I wasn’t quite sure how long I’d live the lifestyle of a Digital Nomad, without a fixed base. So I popped the contents of a two-bedroom apartment into a storage unit…where it’s been ever since.
And although Tierra would very definitely approve of me getting rid of two thirds of the furniture and boxes that were in there, it meant her book didn’t get any attention this week, despite the fact that I now have the edits back.
13 March 2016
Last week I didn’t get much done on the Energetics. Book 2 is with the editor, and whilst I’ve started book 3, I’ve put it down for the minute until book 2 is ready for my beta readers. I’ve been working on some other writing projects, as well as my personal development blog, and I also worked in Kuala Lumpur on a consulting gig, which was interesting (the food is great in KL), but meant early starts and a couple of flights.
All this sounds like a lot of excuses…but one of my challenges is definitely the different projects that I work on. Really looking forward to going to The Smarter Artists Summit at the end of March to share experiences with other writers who juggle more than one career.
